The Trying of Our Faith

The Trying of Our Faith “Good morning class. Clear your desk. We have a surprise test today”.  Do you remember the agony and the butterflies that filled your stomach when the teacher would announce a surprise test? They never came at a good time. Very seldom were we prepared for them. If only I had studied, we think to ourselves, I would be alright.  Why today? Why not tomorrow? I will be ready tomorrow,  we think. Just not today,  we cry to ourselves. Well, just as in school, we get surprise tests in life. You never really know when it is going to strike, but, rest assure, it is coming. Just as in school, we knew that surprise tests were part of the curriculum. We were told on the … Read entire article »

Taking the Leap of Faith

Taking the Leap of Faith Everything in me said “don’t do it” but for some reason I knew I was suppose to. Nothing really made sense about it, yet I knew it was from God. What you’re wondering, the leap of faith I was about to take. Though it was hard to rationalize, understand or see clearly I knew I had to take it. I was going to “step out of my comfort zone and into God’s hands”. I was going to let go of my life and put it in to God’s hands. Stepping out on faith is never easy to do, but it is definitely worth the step, the leap, the anxiety. You may hear that still small voice, you may feel that invisible push, but somehow you … Read entire article »

We All Need a Little Faith

We All Need a Little Faith It is unlike anything else you will do with your life. Having faith is something that takes a long time to understand and even longer to truly feel that you have. As the Bible says, “Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1(NIV) Faith begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ, the man who gave everything, even His own life for our sins. So, why do we feel that we can hold back, keeping things from Him, especially our lives and what we COULD be doing for Him. Yet, we aren’t we’re keeping them for our own use and selfishly trying to please our own selves more than we are trying to please Him. Maybe … Read entire article »

Well Done, My Faithful Flower

Well Done, My Faithful Flower I asked the Lord to plant me as a flower full of grace So that others who would see me would behold His lovely face. And so He gently set my seed into the earth below And caused my roots to settle deep and then the winds to blow. But heavy rains and scorching sun each played a special part In making me a flower that was charming to His heart. But I asked the Lord to give me more that I could do for Him To be far more than just a glimpse of beauty in the wind. And so he chose to grace me with aroma from His heart And caused me to smell sweet for Him and set me far apart From ordinary flowers that just simply come and go Never having … Read entire article »

Faith Shall Set You Free

Faith Shall Set You Free Faith is the key. The power of belief is at the heart of making any success system work for you. Absolute faith in your power to achieve limitless wealth, success and self fulfillment is that hidden secret that you have been searching for. “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move.” Matthew 17:20 I rarely quote Scripture and I do not follow modern religions as they are little more than distortions of the truths of the many enlightened souls who have passed before us. However, if you read the ancient texts, you will find in all religions that faith has been at the heart of … Read entire article »

Faith’s a Winner! The Faith of ‘Inaction’

Faith’s a Winner! The Faith of ‘Inaction’ The life of faith is a much more interesting proposition than living life constantly fearful or in a faithless way, swept up as a victim in situations of quandary. And by faith (for the uninitiated) I mean an approach to meeting life difficulties and triumphs that simply doesn’t respond much differently (than we normally would). It’s the same response no matter the stimuli. When we receive that bad news phone call, for instance, our first reaction–our gut instinct–is to shout and scream, or at least protest and complain and seek a better outcome. With faith we reserve judgment, and we wait on God to help us… I was reminded of this when recently sitting in McDonald’s sharing a meal and a drink with my … Read entire article »

Did the Apostle Peter actually go to Rome?

By: University Prof.Emeritus Mr. Stergios Sakkos. Part 1. The Vatican’s recent communicatory rapprochements, both towards our Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarchate – which the pope had visited on the occasion of the Patriarchal Throne’s celebration of Saint Andrew’s Day (30th November 2006) – as well as towards the Church in Greece – whose archbishop had visited the pope (between the 13th to 16th December 2006) – have both brought to the forefront once again the fundamental papist claim which had led to their original secession from the Orthodox Church : the papist dogma regarding the primacy of the pope. This is supported by papists, on the basis of the decision of the 1st Vatican Council (1870), according to which, the pope is acknowledged as the vicar of Christ and His sole representative on earth; … Read entire article »

Painting By Faith

Painting By Faith Art has always been a symbolic representation of human thoughts, beliefs, and values. The term “medium”, often used to describe the various types of materials used in creating an image, implies that it exists as a midway point between the artist’s mind and all of us. Not only does a piece alone help us to understand the painter or sculptor who made it, but the very medium in which artists choose to work can show something about them. Art, then, is a method of communication, rich in symbolism, between an artist and the public. In no other variety of art is this symbolism more prominent, than in religious art. For many people religion is a deeply held belief system which conjures powerful emotional and spiritual responses. In order … Read entire article »
